Recently a co-worker came to me wanting to write her life story into a shortened testimonial pamphlet. For a few weekends we got together, she talked and I took notes. As she told her story, she would cry or become very emotional during certain moments. Because I had gone through some similar situations, I was able to insert her emotions into the story. On the day she read what I had written, she paused half way through grabbing at tissue “This is so good”. I laughed through my own tears and reminded her “It's your story”. She said “I know, but I never thought about it this way and now it’s all clear.” I marveled as I watched healing come to her from her own testimony.
For quite some time, God has told me to share the abuse that has taken place in my life. However, reliving those excruciating wilderness experiences is like holding a hot pan in my hand. I just couldn’t see the benefit it could give. Now watching my friend I could see the results, very clearly her story did matter.
Romans 15:2 comes to mind, “We should help others do what is right and build them up in the Lord” (NLT). I realize it is my duty to release my testimonies, because they were never mine. Graciously, over and over the living God has stepped in to rescue me. God is still very active in the world doing big and small miracles every day. God wants the glory for what He has done, what He is doing and what He is going to do. By not releasing what He has done for me is essentially like stealing from God.
God’s desire for mankind is to live in charge of his circumstances and not to live in defeat, to have dominion over the earth. With a world so hungry for answers, it would be a shame for us not to release the faith that has been built up in us which we call testimonies.
Friend, I ask you will you keep the Bread of Life in your hand or will you feed those you love? Release your testimony and watch God’s hand move in their lives. Your obedience could set them free!
