Life Is A Gift

By Wendy Staudt

(Read the power-packed articles at bottom of page)

I grew up in Colorado in a home with no father. My dad went home to be with the Lord when I turned three. I never knew him. My mom and my two sisters were my family. We had good times and bad times, just like most families. I went to church with my mom and two sisters every week until I was old enough to think I knew what was best for me. I attended art school and began painting. I was married and we moved to Georgia then Florida on what I called an adventure. We had no jobs and no place to stay, but God provided.

My mom was very ill and we moved back to Colorado so I could take care of her. God had his plans. Six days after we moved back to Colorado, by mom took her last breath in my living room. When my mom went home to be with the Lord, my heart broke. We were so close. As the priest spoke the words, “these three sisters are now orphans” at her home going, my life was changed forever. My sisters and I began an encouragement newsletter that reached out to hurting hearts all over the world. The season of the newsletter was perfect timing. I ran into God’s arms once again for comfort. He helped me make it through a very difficult time of my life.

I began serving in the church in the choir. Funny thing is that I didn’t think I could sing all that well, but God heard my voice and my season in the choir began. Four years later my season in the choir was over.

God moved me to a new church and I waited to see where He wanted me to serve. As I waited to hear from God, my husband’s life took a turn. He was diagnosed with brain cancer. I put down my paint brushes, set aside my life and became a caregiver to my soul mate. I began to write my thoughts down every day. My joys, sorrows and tears were written down on pages of a journal that would later be a gift of inspiration for others. 16 months later, I stood by my husband’s bed and whispered in his ear, “Please forgive me and I forgive you.” I held his hand as he took his last breath. This time instead of crying, I rejoiced. For my husband was now with his Master. God can change your heart.

My new season began as a widow in the dance ministry. I asked, “Why would God want me on the dance team?” A good friend of mine encouraged me. She said that it would not only heal others to see me, but heal me as well. I submitted to God.

God brought a wonderful man into my life several years later. We are now married. God gave me a second chance to love again.

As I look back and read the words I wrote, I knew that God was with me every step of my journey. Little did I know that He would use my words to inspire and encourage. My new season begins as a writer. May God use the words I write to encourage and inspire you.

May you seek God at those points in your life when you just don't think you are going to make it. God never gives you more than you can handle. It is pretty amazing what you can do with Him by your side. I pray your life's journey is full of peace and great blessings. God Bless You!
